Phase 3

Strengthening the Muscular System

Triball Incentive Spirometer

Muscles, Tendons and Ligaments

Strengthening your muscular system is important because it helps maintain good posture, reduces the risk of injuries, improves balance and coordination, supports joint health, aids in weight management, and allows you to perform everyday activities with ease, especially as you age.

Strong muscles contribute to better overall physical function, optimal work performance, and overall quality of life.

In Phase 3 of our approach, we provide clients with two training methods to strengthen and stabilize muscles, tendons, and ligaments: eccentric training and isometric training.

Importance of Muscular Strengthening

Muscular strengthening with eccentric training:

  • Eccentric training involves exercises where the muscle contracts and lengthens under tension which places demands on muscle fibers and tendons to improve muscular control.

  • Gravity exerts a constant downward force on our bodies, so even standing upright with good posture requires some degree of eccentric contraction.

  • Eccentric training lowers the risk of injury and encourages muscle growth, strength, and power output.

Muscular strengthening with isometric training:

  • Isometric training involves exercises where the muscle contracts and generates force without changing its length or causing visible movement in the surrounding joints.

  • These trainings help build strength, improve stability, and promote accelerated recovery.
