Phase 1
Resetting the Nervous System

Just BREATHE
There is one thing we as humans must do all day, every day to survive - breathe. Although we don't have to actively think about breathing, it is not completely autonomic, we can control it.

There are 1,440 minutes in a day and the average adult takes approximately 15 breaths per minute, 21, 600 per day. There is nothing we do daily, that we can control more than our breathing. Understanding how to optimize each breath and the effect it has on our health and performance is paramount.

In Phase 1 of our approach, we offer clients comprehensive breathwork exercises to maximize inhalation, exhalation, and tempo of breathing.

Importance of Proper Breathing
Breathing through your nose has multiple benefits:
-
Nasal Breathing allows for slower, fuller breaths for both inhale and exhale, which in turn stimulates the vagus nerve to signal the brain to activate the parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest).
-
The nose also acts as a filter to clean, heat and moisten the air we breathe for easier consumption and prevents various particles and pollutants that could cause infection from getting into the lungs.
Breathing influences the speed and strength of blood circulation throughout the body:
-
As we inhale, negative pressure draws blood into the heart; as we exhale, blood flows back out into the body and lungs where it recirculates. this process is called thoracic pump.
-
Deep, slow inhales allow for more space in the chest, which in turn will draw more blood to the heart. Slow, full exhales will increase the speed and strength of blood flow throughout the entire boy helping our organs and muscles to perform with the least amount of exertion from the heart.
